Being the capital city, Sacramento has a charm of its own. Sacramento is actually a microcosm of what California is about. The place has a great variety to offer, just as the whole of California has. The city actually has a region within it that’s known as the Old Sacramento. This region houses a State Historic Park.
It is spread over an entire 28 acres and has some of the quaintest shops, restaurants, theatres and museums that you would find in the state. If you are looking for a place where cobblestone paths are still present, this is where you should visit.
However, Sacramento has much to show the intrepid traveler apart from its old region. The following is a list of some of the places that you should definitely visit.
Crocker Art Museum
This is not far from Old Sacramento; you could cover both in one trip. It is named after Edwin Bryant Cocker, who put up his collections in the museum. The museum actually contains several things that helped in building California as it is today. The place has a cultural, historical and political significance and you would like being part of it.
California Musical Theatre
This Broadway Theatre is much different from other similar theatres that you would find. It has a very casual ambience, though the performances are always top-rate.
The State Capitol
The State Capitol is an imposing building that is surrounded by forty different gardens. This stately building has every reason to be proud – it is the hub of the state’s political activities. Tourists can view parts of the building and even part of the action that takes place here.
The Sutter’s Fort
This is a relic that is still held in the bosom of Sacramento. The fort was built by John Sutter in 1839. Today, some parts of the building still stand, but the major attraction is the State Park that occupies most of the area.
Cesar Chavez Park
Visit the Cesar Chavez Park which was previously known as the Plaza Park. This is a place from where you can get an imposing view of the Sacramento coastline, so tug your camera along. The place is right in the midtown of Sacramento, so you could make a whole trip of it by also visiting the adjoining attractions of the Public Library and the City Hall.
Sacramento Zoo
Sacramento has a middle-sized zoo of its own. This is located within the William Land Park. While it is not the most diverse zoos in the state, it is definitely a place where you could take the kids with you and let them have a good time. There’s a Fairy Tale Town here that can keep the young people highly entertained.
